Check the input format

Enter only an IPv4 or IPv6 address rather than a URL or domain name. Extra spaces, port numbers, and incorrectly copied characters can cause problems. For example, enter 8.8.8.8 instead of 8.8.8.8:53. Do not arbitrarily remove colons from an IPv6 address.

Not every address has a location

Private, loopback, and documentation addresses may not return a real public location. Valid syntax and available geolocation are separate conditions. If you queried your device’s local IP, try the public address shown by the site instead, keeping the two address types distinct.

Responding to service errors

Repeated retries do not resolve a quota error. Wait for the provider’s access window; for a connection error, retry later. One failed row in a bulk lookup does not invalidate the others. Record the exact error text and test time when asking for support.

Choose the next step by error type

For an invalid-address message, correct the syntax. For a private or reserved network, check that a public IP was intended. Stop repeated retries after a quota message. For provider unavailability, retry later and record whether one address or the whole list was affected. These distinctions prevent applying the same fix to unrelated failures.
