Identify the connection first

An IP appearing in another city is a common situation. Mobile carriers and ISPs may route traffic through centralized exits. With a VPN, the service usually sees the VPN server’s exit connection. Your physical location and that network point can be different.

Make a controlled comparison

Record the address itself and check whether a VPN is enabled. Compare the same connection with another location database. If switching between mobile data and Wi-Fi changes the IP, you are measuring two different networks. Keep timestamps alongside addresses throughout the comparison.

When a correction request helps

If the same public address consistently shows the wrong country, use the location provider’s correction channel. Supply the lookup result and the region you believe is correct; an exact home address is unnecessary. The ISP’s network records may also help. A correction in one database does not instantly update every service.

Preparing a correction request

First confirm the IP stayed unchanged; comparing different addresses on different days does not establish a location error. Record two recent results for the same address and network. Specify whether the country, city, or organization is incorrect. Provide only the relevant regional information. Acceptance of one correction does not synchronize every other database.
